UPDATE
Tax Deductions for Public Transport and the Pre-filled Tax Return

From 1 January 2025, details of purchases and refunds for season tickets bought via the Arriva MyPay app and the Arriva website will be automatically sent to HM Revenue & Customs to be included in your pre-filled tax return.

Please ensure you enter all the required information correctly. If there are any errors, the submission may be rejected, preventing the data from being included in your pre-filled tax return.

 

You will be asked to enter:

  • The tax reference number of the person named on the season ticket.
  • The tax reference number of the purchaser (if different from the person named on the season ticket).
  • Consent to the transfer of data.

If you do not wish to send the data to the tax authorities, simply do not give your consent at the time of purchase.

  • via the Italian Revenue Agency:
    From 1 January to 16 March of the year following the purchase, by sending the objection form and proof of identity by email to: opposizioneutilizzospesetrasporto@agenziaentrate.it.

 

  • via our company:
    By completing the form below ‘Objection to the submission of the pre-filled 730 form’, to be sent by 31 December of the year of purchase, stating:
    – Geographical area
    – First name and surname
    – Tax code of the season ticket holder

Tax relief

Pursuant to the provision contained in the 2020 Budget Law (Law No. 160 of 27 December 2019), from January 2020, expenses incurred for the purchase of public transport season tickets are eligible for tax relief (IRPEF) only if the season ticket is purchased using payment methods other than cash.

Listed below is the documentation to be submitted with your tax return, which can be used to certify and substantiate the expenditure incurred for the purchase of the travel pass and to claim the applicable tax deduction (19% of the expenditure up to a maximum amount of €250.00).

Annual subscriptions
  1. A copy of the membership card showing the subscriber’s first name and surname;
  2. The purchase receipt issued when the membership was taken out;
  3. A tax receipt, a copy of the cheque or a payment details from the bank statement.
Monthly/weekly passes
  1. A copy of the travel card showing the subscriber’s first name and surname;
  2. “Stickers” (stamps/season tickets) purchased or the receipt issued at the time of purchasing the season ticket;
  3. For paper tickets: A fare table showing the amount (fare) paid for the fare category indicated on the card;
  4. Tax receipt, copy of the cheque or payment details from the bank statement.
Digital subscriptions
  1. Purchase receipt available to download online from the website (click here to view the guide on how to download the receipt);
  2. A printout of the screenshot of the annual/monthly/weekly subscription saved on your smartphone;
  3. Tax receipt, a copy of the cheque or payment details from your bank statement.
Receipts

Single-journey tickets are not tax-deductible; however, the receipt serves as proof of expenditure.

No invoice is issued as the VAT on public transport tickets is objectively non-deductible pursuant to Article 19-bis 1(e) of Presidential Decree No. 633/1972; all our tickets, as they display the price, the route and the company’s tax details, are therefore valid as a tax receipt (Article 12 of Law No. 413/1991).

Receipts already in your possession are therefore valid, for administrative purposes, as proof of expenditure and/or for any tax deductions.


DIGITAL TICKET:

The receipt will be sent by email.

RECHARGEABLE TICKET:

The receipt is issued by the retailer at the time of purchase.

CONTACTLESS:

The receipt can be downloaded from: Dedicated website

Please note that Arriva Italia does not issue any further documents for tax returns.

The company does not have a copy of the paper subscriptions issued, so if they have not been kept we are not able to produce any proof of purchase.
